Checking off twelve episodes at 1am is valid progress. It should not fire twelve “still watching” pings to a household list. Mark the season, then stop.

Set the season, keep Up Next honest, and let return dates wait. A binge is a date range, not a performance.
If you fell asleep on episode six, do not mark eight. The next-session prompt is the whole point after TV Time closed.

Shared progress without a social graph still breaks if one person binge-marks a show the other is on episode two of.
